Since school here in Texas is cancelled for the next two days and most if not all practices have already been cancelled for this afternoon and tonight, let's get some recruiting stuff done.
Obviously you will still have school work to do over the next couple days, but fewer activities means MORE time to do some recruiting stuff!
Here are some ideas for what you can do when there is "nothing to do:"
Start Creating Your List
If you haven't started your list or if you have less than 50 schools on there, this is a great time to do some digging. You can use the NCAA D1 and D2 Rankings; Niche.com; or even search athletic programs by state on Wikipedia. Lots of resources out there to discover new programs.
Research Your Schools
This is a big one. Most athletes don't spend enough time looking into the school's on their list. Look at the roster - are you a good fit? Look at the academics - is this a good fit for what you want after college? Find out some interesting things about the campus, town, volleyball program that you didn't know before. Find some things that you can turn into a question to a college coach once you get on the phone with them.
Send An Email
Hopefully more than one, but one is a start! One of the best ways to get in front of college coaches is to reach out to them. Let them see your name. Let them see your film - maybe for the 2nd or 3rd time. The more you get in front of a college coach, the more likely they are to respond in some way.
Set Up A Phone Call
If you do have time the next couple of days, set up some phone calls! If you've gotten a response from a college coach, you can either email them back or send them a text message (because they probably gave you their contact info in their response) and see when they are free the next two days. If you have the time during the day (vs at night like normal) sometimes connecting over the phone with a college coach can be easier - because they are working too.
Work On Your Highlights
Take a few minutes (maybe an hour) to work on and make a highlight to send off to college coaches. This can take some time, but it's time well spent.
Here are some other blogs where I have written about film.
Use this time wisely!
Turn off your phone or snapchat or whatever and grind out some recruiting work.
Stay safe and warm the next couple of days!
Use the same recruiting tool that I use for all of my athletes!
