It's Signing Week!

Huge congrats to all of the athletes across the country signing their NLI's to play at the college level this week. This is a huge accomplishment for athletes and their families. It's not the end of the journey, but really only the next step or even midway point in their volleyball journeys.

It's always an exciting week for me as I drive to high schools across the city trying to get to as many of these signings as I can! :) As a college coach I received pictures at 6am of athletes signing and returning their NLI's before they went off to school that day. That was always fun, but I never got to actually be at the school for that fun celebration. Sitting where I sit now, I get to go every year and it's awesome. Everyone signs something and I think that's what makes it so great. Whether you are getting a full-ride to a D1 school or getting your books paid for at a D2 school, you get to have a signing party at your school.

This week is a Dead Period. Signing week is always a Dead Period. I think the reasoning stems from the notion that coaches would "encourage" athletes to sign an NLI while they were visiting campus. I'm sure you can imagine the potentially grey area this would create. For volleyball, November is the last month of the Contact Period. December 1 starts the 10 week Quiet Period. The Quiet Period ends Triple Crown weekend (February 18th). There are other tournaments going on across the country that weekend, but I still think that Triple Crown is one of the biggest ones for college coaches.
