I know club season has been going on for a couple months at this point, but with these new recruiting rules for D1 schools the middle of February always feels like the start of recruiting season. With the end of the Quiet Period coming this weekend, it will be exciting to get out again amongst the masses of college coaches.

There have been college out all club season - it's important to remember that. I enjoyed talking with several D2, D3 and NAIA coaches last weekend at the Dallas Tour Stop.

Here are a few things to remember and think about prior to this weekend:

Athletic Fit - This is such a huge piece of this process. Not every school is going to be a great fit volleyball-wise and that's okay. Figure out where you fit and go from there. Even if you are a "D1 caliber" athlete, there are plenty of really competitive D2 programs that are potentially a better fit for you. Most D1 schools are looking for 3 athletes each season.

Contact Coaches - If you haven't reached out to schools prior today, I would get started on that ASAP. You want them to come to your court and more important you need to give them a reason to come to your court. Think about whether or not your film shows you as a fit to their program. I've spent the last 5 years trying to get athletes to be proactive in their process. I will continue to do that! If you want them to come watch YOU play, reach out to them.

On Your Court - Remember that college coaches that come to watch you play are evaluating whether or not you are a volleyball fit for their program, but they are also trying to figure out if your personality is a good fit. They are watching how you treat your teammates, parents and coaches. Be a good teammate. Cheer and celebrate with your team, even when you aren't on the court. Warm-ups might be the best opportunity for college coaches to evaluate you!

Guess Who? - If you are planning on college coaches coming to your court, do you know who they are? Make sure you look at roster pages and try to be familiar with the different coaches that will be coming to watch you play. This is great because after the tournament you'll have a great idea of who actually came to watch you play. Also, if you're walking around the convention center and you see that coach from the school you really want to go to, you can say HI (yes, you're allowed to say HI). Don't just walk by the coach of the school you're really interested in without saying anything because you didn't really know who they were.

Good luck this weekend! Feel free to say HI! :)
