Waiting For Waiting's Sake

There is a huge difference between "passive" and "active" waiting when it comes to recruiting.
Passive Waiting - This is when you don't feel like anything is happening recruiting wise and so you sit, hope and wait for a coach to email you or contact you in some way. This happens a lot during a quiet period, when coaches (D1) aren't out at tournaments. Athletes and parents don't see very many coaches out and so they don't feel like the can, should or need to contact them. This type of waiting happened for almost 18 months during the NCAA forced dead period. Many families thought that they couldn't email college coaches; many other's just didn't think they needed to.
Active Waiting - This is when there might not be a ton going on, but you're doing what you can to make things happen. You're still in a waiting phase, but you're doing what you can to change that. There might not be a ton of coaches out at tournaments, but you're still doing what you can to contact them. You might not have any NEW film, but you're still giving them updates on your season and academics. You might not have a tournament for 2 more weeks, but you're telling coaches about your plans and what else might be going on.
When a family asked me anything surrounding the idea of waiting, I usually give them an answer like, "That depends on what you're going to be doing while you're waiting?"
I also suggest that athletes be more on the aggressive side. You tend to get more information when you are trying to move on to the next phase.
If you're getting emails, then ask for phone calls.
If you've been talking to a coach on the phone for awhile and you want to make a visit, ask to make a visit.
Here is the other one...
In volleyball, one offer does not automatically mean that you will get more offers. Don't wait for other schools to just offer you. If there is something or some program out there that you would rather be a part of, then reach out to them.
If you have a couple of school's that are interested, but you're "waiting" to get in front of more coaches...make sure that those other coaches are planning to come watch you sooner than later. Later might not ever come.
