What to talk about?

I hear it a bunch of different ways:
"What do we put in an email?"
"I don't know what to talk about?"
"We don't have new film. We can't send an email."
"Nothing is happening with volleyball."
"There's nothing going on."
"What do college coaches want to hear about?"
"I already sent them my club schedule, what else is there to say?"
But these are all just the same struggle repeated in different ways. The struggle is that athletes make communication with college coaches more complicated than it needs to be. I am no expert in TikTok or Snapchat and I've honestly stayed as far away from those things as possible, but athletes for the most part communicate very easily through those mediums. Emails, phone calls and text messages are, in general, how most adults communicate with each other. Those are also the ways that most college coaches communicate with athletes during the recruiting process. I will say this, even though it's slightly off topic:
Athletes need to use these forms of communication earlier, more consistently and become comfortable communicating with adults while using them.
Since I don't encourage athletes to communicate with college coaches through things like DM on Instagram or through Snapchat, the issue becomes what do athletes talk about or say in their emails. There are all sorts of events and things going on that you (the athlete) can talk about with college coaches. So, what I did was create a simple little PDF to give you guys some idea of topics and things to talk about or mention in your emails. In the end, saying something is going to almost always be better than saying nothing.
Click on the link below and use this guide whenever you get stuck sending out your emails each month. Remember, it doesn't have to be anything fancy or amazing! Coaches want to hear from you. Get their attention by communicating regularly with them. It can make a huge difference!
