In a story that will get little to no headlines, McNeese and Incarnate Word are apparently joining the WAC next year.

I had heard that UIW was planning on leaving the Southland and hadn't heard about McNeese until earlier today.

That essentially leaves the Southland with 6 schools and even fewer options as far as adding schools. I'm honestly not sure where they go from here, but as I said before, I would imagine the addition of some D2 schools in and around Texas just makes sense for their survival.

The (potentially) more interesting part of this would be the talk that Sam Houston is looking to join Conference USA. This isn't a stretch as Sam Houston has had one of the best FCS football teams in recent years. Their attempt to bump up to a FBS conference makes sense. I'm surprised that they wouldn't try and move to the SunBelt since CUSA has basically been purged and on the threat of extinction (similar to the Southland). Who else is CUSA going to give the bump to going forward in order to keep themselves around? The WAC would love to become an FBS conference and I would imagine that they are attempting to load up in order to make that possible.

The addition of UIW and McNeese to the WAC would put 8 teams in each division with the addition of Southern Utah coming next season as well. That is, unless Sam Houston does leave, then you're looking at adding one more school? We will just have to wait and see.
