The recruiting process for everyone can look really different. Some athletes are able to connect with the right school for the right situation very quickly and easily and other athletes might spend months just trying to connect with a coach.

You've certainly heard the phrase, "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket." This rule applies to college recruiting as well.

We shouldn't be shocked.

Last week I talked about some of the issues surrounding this notion of Division 1 athletics. You can go HERE to read Part 1 of this post. The basic notion that I am trying to get across is that being "D1" doesn't automatically make you better than everyone else in the different divisions, far from it. There are plenty of levels throughout all of D1 volleyball and some of the differences conference to conference and program to program can be pretty drastic.

This is a topic that comes up a lot with college coaches. Not just D1 coaches either; I have similar discussions with D2 coaches as well. One college coach and I were talking about this from the D1 perspective. Specifically, "What makes a school/program Division 1?" It might seem like a simple question, but I think it's something we need to discuss openly more and more because I'm not sure we really understand the differences.

This is the best recruiting advice I can give anyone.

As Triple Crown approaches and the D1 Quiet Period comes to an end, I think one of the biggest things to remember is to have fun .

I'm planning on doing a few more of those posts, because I think the information is interesting and worth pondering when you're thinking about WHERE you want to play or in WHAT conference. There is a huge difference between "passive" and "active" waiting when it comes to recruiting.

I throw a lot of statistics and numbers out there for parents and athletes. My goal in doing this is to help them understand the odds they are up against and just how difficult this process can be for some athletes. I have an entire seminar structured around a Post-June 15th situation where you don't get any phone calls from coaches or you don't hear from the ones that you wanted to hear from. As MLK tournament weekends are really the start to the club season and Qualifier season is right around the corner, for those of you that are uncommitted it's potentially a good time to start looking at what you can do differently in your recruiting process.

Last time I looked specifically at where Texas athletes play relative to the Power 5 Conferences. This time I wanted to look at the Next 5 conferences. That is, the rest of the FBS schools to see if we see any change in the amount of athletes from the state of Texas in where they play.
