The State Tournament in Texas is this weekend. That means that the high school season is ending. Many athletes will "start" the recruiting process, even though college coaches have been recruiting this entire volleyball season. Several athletes were on recruiting visits this past weekend.

Since we are about a month or so away from the Transfer Portal absolutely blowing up, I figured now would be a decent time to talk about Transfers. First lets talk about what made some of the nearly 1,000 volleyball athletes go into the portal last year.

As I was watching multiple upsets happen over the weekend, I was reminded of an end of season meeting I had with one of my athletes. We had just come off of what was a pretty terrible season. Meeting the athletes is probably the MOST important part of a recruiting visit. Depending on how the visit is structured and how the logistics of the day play out, a high school athlete might end up spending a lot of time with the team. In other circumstances, the athlete might only get to spend a limited amount of the time with the team. This may or may not be by design, but I would guess that most of the time it's dictated by the overall schedule of the visit. So, if yo

I know several high school coaches that do a fantastic job of helping their athletes with the recruiting process. They are usually former college players and/or coaches that understand the recruiting process fairly well. Club coaches for many years have been helping their athletes with the recruiting process. Clubs also usually have someone like myself or an experienced coach handle a large chunk of the recruiting process. This unfortunately is NOT always the case.
